Walmart & Sam's Club Radio Introduces: Kirby Gwen!

Radio

DJ Kirby proves the power of manifestation as she takes her place in the Walmart and Sam’s Club Radio studio!

Kirby Gwen grew up with a goal. Unlike most 10-year-olds, who want to serve as presidents or astronauts, she always knew: She was destined for the airwaves.

“I remember writing it down as a kid, ‘I want to be a radio DJ,’” Kirby says. “Music, celebrities, conversation—that sounds like the coolest job in the world.”

Fast forward a few years, and Kirby has proven the power in chasing your dreams down. How? She’s your newest Walmart and Sam’s Club Radio DJ. And she’s got big plans for a bright future.

“I’m supposed to be here!”

“I truly believe in the power of alignment, and the power of manifestation. And I remember coming down to Bentonville and thinking, ‘I am supposed to be here!’” Kirby says.

“I’ve always stood on the pillar of wanting to uplift, entertain and inform. I want to know what our associates are into, I want us to uplift one another, and I ultimately want to be able to share our light and our spark with one another.”

When meeting Kirby, it’s immediately obvious she has lots of light to share. During her time in radio, she’s brought joy to others in countless ways, from emceeing live events to spending the night in an animal shelter—where, shocked as she was, she became a cat person.

“His little paws reached out to pull my hand back closer, and it was a wrap after that.”

“Never in a million, trillion, bajillion years would I have ever thought I would be a cat lady,” Kirby says laughing. She tells the story of spending a night in an animal shelter as a charity benefit, when she met her new BFF.

New Walmart and Sam's Club Radio DJ Kirby Gwen has a personality as bright as the flowers in our Garden Center.

“I’m holding him while I’m on a Facebook Live. And I go to adjust the video, and his little paws reached out to pull my hand back closer, and it was a wrap after that,” Kirby says. “So two weeks later, I went back and I got him. His name is T’Challa Maurice Moon. I felt like the Maurice Moon part just gave it a little razzle dazzle.”

When it comes to music, Kirby continues her mission to uplift and inspire. And by her own admission, she can listen to anything. Like most of us, revealing her whole listening history makes her feel vulnerable, but Kirby offers an inside look at her sweeping tastes, proving that she really does dig it all.

“I just really enjoy music—especially music that makes me feel something!”

“If you were to look at all my music and try and gauge my personality, I don’t think you would get it. It’s so diverse,” Kirby says. “You might go from Fleetwood Mac to DMX to some Mariah Carey and then go over to Britney Spears. Because to me, it doesn’t matter the genre, I just really enjoy music—especially music that makes me feel something!”

New Walmart and Sam's Club Radio DJ Kirby Gwen has fun in a Walmart Super Center.

As she learns the role and gets to know associates better, Kirby wants the chance to chat. If you see her out and about, say hi! At the end of the day, her goal is a simple one: helping associates everywhere shine their brightest.

“Walmart has always been the location of a lot of these really incredible memories I’ve made with friends,” Kirby says. “Now, I’m just looking forward to making more.”
