SENIOR DIRECTOR - TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT
Tathagat Varma is the Senior Director, Technology Strategy and Business Operations at Walmart Labs India. In his role, Tathagat is responsible for leading strategic business initiatives, enterprise agile transformation, technical learning and enablement, strategic technical initiatives, startup ecosystem engagement, and internal events across Walmart Labs IDC. He also provides support to horizontal technical and internal innovation programs in the company.
Starting as a Computer Scientist with DRDO, and with an overall experience of 27 years, Tathagat has played significant technical and leadership roles in establishing and growing organizations like NerdWallet, ChinaSoft International, McAfee, Huawei, Network General, NetScout System, [24]7 Innovations Labs and Yahoo!, and played key engineering roles at Siemens and Philips.
He did his own gig into management consulting and successfully ran “Thought Leadership” during 2014-17 as a solopreneur. He considers that as the most important years in his learning journey that allowed him to help some of the biggest and most complex organizations.
Tathagat is passionate about learning. He reads upto a hundered books each year, and is a very prolific blogger, and also a published author. His book titled “Agile Product Development” was published by Apress in 2015.
With a Masters in Computer Science from Unversity of Allahabad and an Executive MBA (PGCHRM) from XLRI Jamshedpur, Tathagat has completed several leadership oriented courses from reputed universities across the globe like Cornell University and Columbia Business School, and is currently pursuing PhD (EFPM) from Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.
His favorite adventure is staying sixteen months at Maitri, the permanent Indian station in Antarctica, as member of the 13th Indian Scientific Expedition during 1993-95. Catch his talk on his journey on TEDx.
