Liz Brown, Sr. Manager, Business Analysis and Insights at Sam’s Club, has spent nearly a decade building a career at Walmart and Sam’s Club. Over the years, she’s supported teams across operations, merchandising, and replenishment—and earned a bachelor’s degree in supply chain through Live Better U.
But Liz’s story is more than just her career growth. It’s also about what it looks like to take care of yourself as an associate and a leader, especially when life gets complicated.
“We’re all humans having a human experience,” Liz says. “All of us have good days and not so good days.”
That belief has shaped how she leads, how she supports others, and how she’s learned to advocate for her own well-being, especially after navigating a new health diagnosis last year. Following that diagnosis and looking more closely at some of the challenges she was experiencing, Liz was referred to a neuropsychological specialist several hours away from her home, with a potential wait time of over a year to be seen and evaluated. That’s when she started looking for another path forward.
Through Walmart’s Disability Action Network (DAN) associate resource group, Liz learned about a new medical plan benefit designed to help accelerate access to care for associates and their dependents with neurodiverse conditions. She connected with Lyra, Walmart’s mental health provider, to start the process of getting a neuropsychological evaluation.
From the start, the process worked with her life—not against it. The experience was fully virtual, fit into her schedule, and supported her every step of the way.
“From even the first phone call with Lyra,” Liz says, “everyone has been very compassionate, educated, and receptive.”
As a result, Liz received a diagnosis and now has access to resources, including medication management if she needs it. For Liz, the biggest change wasn’t just having a diagnosis, it was what the diagnosis made possible.
“This experience and getting a diagnosis helped remove the stigma I thought had existed as an adult with a neuropsychological diagnosis,” Liz shares. “It’s given me the right kind of mental toughness and resilience knowing I don’t have to go at it alone.”
Liz hopes her story encourages others, whether they’re exploring care for themselves or supporting a loved one.
“Well-being is more than running on a treadmill,” she says. “It’s having courage to show up for yourself in spaces that seem intimidating and work to heal parts of yourself that you may have judged in the past.”
For Liz, using Walmart’s neurodiversity benefit wasn’t just a healthcare decision. It was a step toward showing up more fully for her team, her family, and herself—and a reminder that seeking support is a strength, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.
